Spring
Sports Update
by Chris Coleman, TechSideline.com,
TSLMail #429 April 23, 2010
Today was a big day for
Virginia Tech's Queen Harrison. The senior was named ACC Women's Outdoor Track
MVP. She won the conference title in the 100 and 400 meter hurdles last weekend
at the ACC Championships.
In the 400 meter hurdles,
Harrison set a conference meet record with a time of 54.66. Her 100 meter
hurdle time was 12.44.
This is Harrison's second
MVP award of the season. Earlier this year she won the ACC Women's Indoor Track
MVP, when she won the 100 and 400 meter hurdle events in the indoor circuit. She
was also named ACC Women's Track Performer of the Year on March 19.
Harrison won the 100 meter
hurdle indoor National Championship back in March. She'll look to repeat as
outdoor champion later in the outdoor season.
Baseball Team at Georgia Tech
The Virginia Tech baseball
team won one of their three games last week at #1 Virginia, and remains ranked
#20 in the nation. The Hokies are 1-0 so far this week after a 16-6 drubbing of
Radford on Tuesday afternoon. Their record stands at 26-13 and 9-9 in the ACC.
Tech will get yet another
challenge over the weekend. They'll head out on the road yet again, this time to
Atlanta where they will take on #4 Georgia Tech, who is 33-5 on the season. The
Yellow Jackets are an extremely impressive team that swept a good Clemson team
last weekend.
The Hokies are looking to
make the ACC Tournament for the first time since the conference expanded to 12
teams. Eight teams make the tournament, including the top two teams from each
division, and then the next four best teams regardless of division. Here's a
look at the ACC standings as of today.

As of now, the Hokies
would be in the tournament. Maryland, Wake Forest, UNC and Duke would be on the
outside looking in.
Virginia Tech plays in the
more difficult division of the ACC. Both Virginia and Georgia Tech are ranked in
the top five in the Baseball America poll, with Miami right behind them at #14.
With Virginia Tech at #20, the ACC Coastal Division is as good as any college baseball
division in America.
The Hokies have played a
very difficult road schedule to boot. They have played at Clemson, at Florida
State and at Virginia, and now they must travel to Georgia Tech as well.
If Tech makes the ACC
Tournament this year, as well as the NCAA Regionals, they certainly will have
earned it.

Spring Game Primer
April 23, 2010
Tomorrow
is the Spring Game, which will be very entertaining for fans who
have not seen the Hokies in person since this past season. However,
with the starting lineup split in half, as well as so many offensive
line injuries, don't expect a crisply played game.

Bud
Foster's defense has come a long way this spring. Replacing seven

sideways.
