Have
You Checked Kroger®'s Store Locator and Weekly
Specials Web Page?
TSL is proud to have
Kroger® as a sponsor. Kroger® has been sponsoring Hokie athletics for years
and has become a permanent fixture in VT athletics (whenever someone says,
"You know what Coach Beamer says" on the message boards, someone else
ALWAYS responds with, "Get your tailgate supplies at Kroger®!")
Kroger®'s latest TSL
ads, the ones that start out with the notation "Local Specials", are
very cool -- when you click them, it takes you to a store locator, and once you
locate a Kroger® store from the list, it loads your latest weekly specials.
You can browse them all, sort them by category, etc.
Very cool -- click below

Hokies Pay Out Hefty Football Bonuses
by Chris Coleman, TechSideline.com
The Virginia Tech football
team completed another successful season in 2005, advancing to the ACC
Championship Game and earning a berth in the Gator Bowl. As a result of the
11-win season, the entire coaching staff earned bonuses, as did members of the
training staff, the athletic director and band directors.
All told, the bonuses for
the ACC Championship Game and the Gator Bowl came out to just under half a
million dollars. For the coaching staff, the bonus amount varied depending on
what role the coach had with the team.
Regular assistant coaches
received a bonus of $3,000 for the ACC Championship Game. Associate Head Coach
Billy Hite and recruiting coordinator Jim Cavanaugh pocketed $4,000. Offensive
and Defensive Coordinators Bryan Stinespring and Bud Foster earned $5,000
apiece.
For earning a trip to the
Gator Bowl, the coaching staff received even greater bonuses. Foster and
Stinespring earned $40,000 apiece because of their status as coordinators, while
the rest of the assistant coaches earned $18,750. Frank Beamer got a whopping
$155,388 bonus for the Gator Bowl appearance.
Of course, others were
given bonuses as well for their hard work during the season. Strength and
Conditioning Coach Mike Gentry received $3,000 for the ACC Championship Game
appearance, and another $18,750 for the Gator Bowl. (In other words, he earned a
full coach’s share.) Jack Johnson, Gentry’s assistant, also received a
$3,962 bonus for the Gator Bowl.
Even equipment manager
Lester Karlin got into the act. Karlin received a check for $1,500 for the ACC
Championship Game and another $4,007 for the Gator Bowl. Director of Football
Operations John Ballein pocketed $3,000 for the ACC Championship Game and $8,904
for the Gator Bowl.
Head trainer Mike Goforth
was given a nice bonus as well. Goforth received $1,500 for the trip to the ACC
Championship Game, and another $5,356 for Tech’s berth in the Gator bowl.
Even the band directors
got into the act. Director Dave McKee received $5,000, while assistant director
Will Peterson was awarded $4,000.
And last, but certainly
not least, Athletics Director Jim Weaver received a share as well. Weaver got
$36,142 for the Gator Bowl appearance.
Here’s a look at the
entire list of bonuses.

Odom's
Road to his VT Commitment
June 1, 2006
It’s
a good thing Osbourn Park's (Manassas, VA) Quillie Odom can play
with pain. Had he not played almost his entire junior season with
a broken thumb, perhaps he wouldn’t have earned a scholarship
from Virginia Tech. But he did and, on Tuesday, became the first
player to commit to the Hokies for the 2007 class.

Inside
the Numbers: Rating the 1998 Recruiting Class
May 30, 2006
The
1998 recruiting class will be always be remembered as the class
that brought in superstars such as Michael Vick, Lee Suggs and
Jake Grove. There were many other good players in that class as
well, and they helped Virginia Tech win a lot of football games
over the course of their careers. I was in high school when this
class signed with Tech, and probably followed the program as
closely as anyone could expect from a 9th grader, but I knew next
to nothing about recruiting. And I didn't really care about it
either. But I do remember hearing and reading about the 1998
recruiting class and getting really fired up. I remember having
the belief that this class would get Virginia Tech to the next
level, and I think a lot of other people believed that as well. So
why so much hype for the 1998 recruiting class? Read on.
