Virginia Tech Football Recruiting News | |||||
DT DeAntre Rhodes Commits to VT by Chris Coleman, TechSideline.com Virginia Tech received the 17th verbal commitment of the 2009 recruiting class, when Varina (Richmond, VA) high school defensive tackle DeAntre Rhodes made his pledge on Monday. Rhodes is TechSideline.com's #15 player in the state of Virginia. He plays defensive tackle for Varina, and his position coach is former Hokie defensive tackle Kevin Lewis. Lewis had this to say about Rhodes: "As far as me and my brother (Jonathan Lewis) are concerned, DeAntre actually has more of the intangibles," Lewis said. "He has great size coming out of high school. He is 6-3, over 270 pounds. He runs around real well. He gets off the line quickly and he uses his hands real well. As the defensive line coach, I've tried to instill some of the things that coach Wiles instilled in me and my brother." Rhodes had scholarship offers from schools such as Boston College, Clemson, Maryland, Michigan, Purdue, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. He is a major pickup for the Hokies, and was one of their top remaining targets on the board. Tech is down to just a few spots remaining in their 2009 recruiting class.
