Virginia Tech head coach Seth Greenberg picked up his first verbal commitment for the 2008 recruiting class today, when a standout 6-8, 230-pound power forward pledged to the Hokies. The prospect is rated a 4-star recruit by Scout.com and a 3-star recruit by Rivals.com. His name is Victor Davila, a star prospect out of Starmount High School in Boonville, North Carolina. "He talked to Coach Greenberg this afternoon and told him," said Donnie Livengood, Davila's legal guardian. "This is something we had finalized recently, but we hadn't told many people." Davila (pronounced Dah-vee-lah) chose Virginia Tech over Charlotte, Clemson, Iowa State and Wake Forest. There were many reasons why the Hokies won out. "We have been up there for a visit," said Livengood, who added that Davila will return to Tech for an official visit on September 28th. "Victor liked the campus. Coach Greenberg and Coach Palmore have been recruiting him for about three years on and off. The academic support program up there is great. Not to take anything away from anyone else, but Virginia Tech's program is great. Victor felt comfortable with the academic advisor. After all, he is going there to get an education first." As a junior last year, Davila averaged 21 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks per game. He had 104 blocks last season and did not foul out of one game. For more information on Davila,
