The Hokies picked up their 17th commitment of the 2008 recruiting class when Landstown (Virginia Beach) safety Xavier Boyce made his pledge to Virginia Tech. Boyce could end up playing whip, rover or free safety at Tech.

Boyce is #19 in TSL's Top 30 in the state of Virginia. He had scholarship offers from Auburn, Clemson, UConn, Maryland, Northern Illinois and Rutgers. He plays quarterback for former Virginia Tech fullback Steve Canter, who is now the head coach at Landstown.

As a junior in 2006, Boyce accounted for 1,200 yards passing and 370 yards rushing. He played free safety as a sophomore, and that's where he could end up at the college level.
