Play the Pete Dye River Course for a Chance at TSL Prizes! is partnering with the Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech to offer TSL readers a chance at winning a free one-year TSL Pass subscription and great Virginia Tech merchandise. The prize package is valued at approximately $100.

To participate, just play the Pete Dye River Course this month. Report your score to the PDRC staff, and the lowest "TSL score" of the month wins one year of TSL Pass and a great piece of Virginia Tech merchandise.

This month's VT merchandise is either a Virginia Tech polo shirt or a Virginia Tech windshirt (your choice).

Here are the details:

  • Set up a tee time at PDRC. (Click here for greens fees.) You can do this online at (ten days in advance only).
  • Play the course.
  • Report your score, name, and email address to PDRC staff (Keith or John if available), and tell them to include you in the competition.
  • We'll let you know if you won at the end of the month.
  • In the case of a two-way tie, prize packages will be awarded to each winner. In the case of a three-way-or-more tie, the tie will be broken down to two winners via a random chance method to be determined later (roll of the dice, coin flip, etc.).

WR Dyrell Roberts Commits to VT
by Chris Horne

At a 1:00 p.m. press conference, Smithfield (VA) star rising senior Dyrell Roberts announced that he has verbally committed to Virginia Tech, choosing the Hokies over Penn State and the University of Virginia. The talented athlete, a versatile performer for Smithfield, becomes Tech's 16th commitment for the 2008 recruiting class.

The 6-2, 195-pound prospect, rated the #8 overall recruit in the state in TSL's Pre-Summer Top 30, is being recruited by Virginia Tech to play wide receiver. As a junior last season, he saw action at running back, wide receiver, cornerback, safety and returned kicks and punts.

Roberts rushed for 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns, hauled in 22 receptions, made 8 interceptions and returned two punts for touchdowns in his junior season. He earned first-team all-Central region honors at running back and defensive back and earned second-team all-state honors at defensive back.

With Roberts in the fold, Virginia Tech continues its dominance in the state in this 2008 recruiting class. Tech has now compiled 11 commitments from the Commonwealth including 10 from TSL's Top 30. Roberts is the first prospect from TSL's Top 10 to commit to the Hokies.

We will have comments from Roberts in a later update.
