Virginia Tech picked up their second football commitment of the day when Stafford High School linebacker Jake Johnson verballed to the Hokies. Safety Jeron Gouveia committed earlier in the day. "Jake has made a verbal commitment to Virginia Tech and is extremely excited about the opportunity," Stafford head coach Chad Lewis told TSL earlier this evening. "He spoke with coach Bud Foster last night." Jake Johnson is already a physically imposing player at 6-2, 235. He reportedly sports a 4.5 in the 40 yard dash. His numbers from his junior season are very impressive: 125 tackles, including 27 for loss, in 2006. He also had nine sacks and added two interceptions. The Hokies are recruiting him as a linebacker. Johnson is the fifth commitments of Virginia Tech’s 2008 recruiting class. He joins Gouveia and linebacker Bruce Taylor, athlete Derrick McCoy and wide receiver Austin Fuller. Maryland, Virginia and Tennessee were among the school recruiting Johnson, who visited Virginia Tech twice during the month of May. Click
