TSL Welcomes New Sponsor CarMax

In the last couple of months, we have told you about some pilot sponsor campaigns that will help us sign long-term sponsorship deals that will shape the future of our web site, its success, and our ability to improve the site for you. (Click here to read that announcement.) You'll recall that we need your help to make these pilot campaigns succeed. We've rolled out three of these campaigns so far, and we proudly introduce a fourth: CarMax, the way car buying should be. Please read on for more information about CarMax, and how you can help TechSideline.com.

First, let us introduce our new sponsor:  CarMax is the nation's largest retailer of used cars. Created more than 13 years ago, CarMax brought integrity and transparency to the automotive industry. Their unique no-hassle, no-haggle process was designed to make car buying easy and fun.

Here's where you, the TSL community, can help:  Show CarMax your appreciation of their support of TechSideline.com by choosing CarMax for your next used car purchase. If you've got a CarMax story, feedback or commentary or just a simply want to say "thanks," email it to us at by clicking here and we'll put the emails together and pass them on to CarMax.

Your email response to previous sponsors Allstate, Lowe's, and TicketCity.com was phenomenal and critical in signing them to long-term sponsorships. Please give us the same support for CarMax!

Hokies Get Commitment From Point Guard Hank Thorns
by Chris Coleman, TechSideline.com

Seth Greenberg has added one more player to his 2007 recruiting class. Las Vegas point guard Hank Thorns announced this evening that he will be attending Virginia Tech, beginning with the 2007-8 season.

"I'm committed to Virginia Tech," Thorns said. "I'm very excited. I plan on attending summer school on July 1st. I'm extremely excited about it."

Thorns visited Virginia Tech last week and wasted little time before committing. Thorns was given a personal tour of the campus by Coach Greenberg, and he immediately felt comfortable with Virginia Tech. "It was great," Thorns said. "I felt at home with Coach Greenberg. The whole team is like a family."

Thorns is a 5-9 scoring point guard who averaged 27.6 points, 12.5 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game as a senior at Valley High School in Las Vegas. His stock rose recently after he scored 37 points against Boo Williams' Virginia-based AAU team.

The Hokies and Old Dominion offered, while Virginia and Kentucky were closely evaluating Thorns. UVA is rumored to be interested in offering Thorns, but they were forced to wait to see if Sean Singletary keeps his name in the NBA Draft. Kentucky wanted Thorns to visit before offering.

Fortunately for Virginia Tech, Thorns did not want to wait. He made his decision recently, and he announced it this evening ... he'll be a Hokie.

For more comments from Thorns, and for comments from his coach on his style of play, please see our TSL Pass update.
