After a quiet fall and winter on the football recruiting front, the Hokies reached all the way into Minnesota for commitment #24 of the 2007 recruiting class, getting a verbal from long snapper/offensive lineman Collin Carroll out of Minneapolis. Carroll visited VT this past weekend and committed Monday, selecting the Hokies over his only other offer, from Eastern Michigan. Carroll also received walk-on interest from Northwestern and Minnesota (where his father played college football). Carroll, who measures 6-3, 255, is being recruited by the Hokies as a special teams long snapper, with offensive line potential. His father, Jay Carroll, played tight end for Minnesota in the early '80s and then played a few years in the NFL with the Buccaneers and the Vikings. Carroll complimented Frank Beamer, saying "I liked him a lot and it was great to get to know him. You can tell he really cares about his players." Carroll also spoke highly of offensive line coach Curt Newsome, who has been in "consistent contact" with Carroll throughout the recruiting process. Carroll will sign with the Hokies next Wednesday and plans to enroll in second summer session of 2007. For quotes from Carroll on why he committed to VT, please see our TSL Pass update. Click
