The Virginia Tech basketball program received a verbal commitment last week from North Carolina forward J.T. Thompson, who announced that he would play for Coach Seth Greenberg. Thompson is a 6-6, 215 pound prospect who is being recruit to play the small forward position for the Hokies. He chose Virginia Tech over offers from Clemson and Georgia, and Indiana was close to offering as well. He is an athletic player who knows how to finish inside, having played center for his high school team, Forest Hills. Thompson is transferring to Hope Christian in Ashville, NC for the upcoming season. He will reclassify as a junior and become a 2008 recruit, giving him more time to work on his perimeter game before he enrolls in Blacksburg. He averaged 17 points and nine rebounds per game for Forest Hills last season. Thompson joins 6-3 guard Shamarr Bowden as commitments for Virginia Tech's 2008 recruiting class. If Tech signs no more players in the 2007 class (commitments already from SF Jeff Allen and PF/C Augustus Gilchrist), the Hokies could take up to five players in the 2008 class.
