Hokies Nab Fifth Player from State's Top Ten, QB Greg Boone

by Will Stewart, TechSideline.com

Going into a big recruiting weekend, Virginia Tech added the 21st commitment for their 2005 recruiting class this morning when Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, VA) QB Greg Boone verbaled to the Hokies. Boone, a 3-star recruit and TechSideline.com's #7 player in the state, becomes the fifth player from TSL's in-state Top 10 to verbal to VT.

At 6-4, 250 pounds, and running a 4.65 forty, Boone is a formidable athlete who could play any number of positions, including QB, tight end, linebacker, or defensive end. But Boone will get his first shot at QB at Virginia Tech, according to Oscar Smith Richard Morgan.

Boone missed two games due to injury this fall but still managed to pass for 1,285 yards and rush for 949 yards, accounting for 35 touchdowns.

Boone's commitment now gives the Hokies 21 players in the class of 2005 (including 18 high school seniors and prep players William Wall, Brandon Holland, and Sam Wheeler -- click here for the complete list).
