LB Andrew Bowman Commits to VT

by Will Stewart, TechSideline.com

Four-star linebacker Andrew Bowman from Hermitage High School in Richmond has become the highest-rated in-state recruit to commit to the Hokies for the 2004 recruiting class. TechSideline.com's Chris Horne confirmed the news with the Hermitage High School athletic director this morning.

The 6-1, 230-pound Bowman runs a 4.6 forty and is ranked the #6 player in the state by Chris Horne, and the #9 player in the state by Roanoke Times. He joins QB Sean Glennon (#7 in the state) and RB Branden Ore (#8 in the state) as VT commitments from the state's top 10 recruits.

Bowman, ranked the 12th best linebacker in the country by TheInsiders.com, picked the Hokies over offers from Virginia, Tennessee, and Purdue. He is VT's first linebacker recruit of the 2004 recruiting class, and he continues the Virginia Tech coaching staff's efforts to upgrade the talent at the linebacker position. The highly-regarded Bowman follows big-name recruits Xavier Adibi and Vince Hall from the 2003 recruiting class into the Tech program.

Bowman visited Virginia Tech the weekend of Dec. 13th, and he is the fourth player from that visit weekend to commit to the Hokies -- the others are FB Michael Green, DE Mike Mangold, and OL Ryan Shuman (CB Rod Council, also a VT commit, was on campus two days prior, on Dec. 11th). The only remaining uncommitted player from that Dec. 13th visit weekend is DE Olu Hall, the #1 recruit in the state.

Bowman is Tech's 16th commitment of the 2004 recruiting class, and the fourth four-star recruit, with the others being Glennon, Mangold, and RB George Bell. To see the list of VT verbals for the 2004 class, click here.
