Fullback/linebacker Michael Green (Deptford High School, Deptford, New Jersey) has committed to the Hokies. The 6-1, 235-pound Green, rated as a three-star player (out of five) by TechSideline.com, has favored the Hokies throughout his recruiting process. He picked Tech over Indiana and Minnesota, both of whom offered. Green visited VT on the weekend of Dec. 13th and despite naming VT as his leader, he had maintained that he wanted to visit the Hoosiers (Jan. 17th) and Gophers (Jan. 31st) before deciding close to signing day. Green changed his mind and went with VT early. With his 4.7 speed, he is targeted as a fullback for Virginia Tech, who is in dire need of prospects at the fullback position. Standout Doug Easlick has no more eligibility after the Insight Bowl game. The Hokies have converted tight ends Jeff King and John Kinzer, plus a bevy of walk-ons, led by Mike Perlozzo and Jesse Allen, to choose from. Green was recruited by VT's Jim Cavanaugh, and running backs coach Billy Hite made no bones about how bad he wanted Green. "Coach Hite told me that all he wants for Christmas is me," Green told TSL's Chris Horne after his December 13th visit. "He said other schools want me, but they [Tech] need me. That felt pretty good." As a fullback, Green averaged 7.4 yards per carry, and as a linebacker, he had 125 tackles. Green is Tech's 15th commitment of the 2004 recruiting class.
