The Richmond Times-Dispatch has reported that Virginia Tech men's basketball coach Ricky Stokes has been dismissed.

A press conference is called for 4:30 to discuss the men's basketball program, and it is anticipated that the firing will be announced then:

Stokes' firing ends a four-year run at the school in which his teams compiled a record of 45-70. After going 16-15 in the Atlantic-10 in 1999-2000, Stokes' first year, the Hokies entered the Big East Conference and didn't get close to playing .500 basketball, going 8-19 (2-14 Big East), 10-18 (4-12), and 11-18 (4-12).

The team failed to qualify for the Big East Tournament all three years under Stokes, and attendance hovered around 4,000 fans per game.
