Hokies Sign 20 Players to Letters of Intent The Virginia Tech Hokies signed 20 football players to letters of intent today, ending one of the most hotly-contested recruiting seasons in recent memory. The class is highlighted by quarterback Marcus Vick (pictured at right). Yesterday, with the commitment of Marcus Vick, the Hokies had a list of 20 verbally committed players. Today, defensive tackle Jimmy Williams verbaled and signed with the Hokies to bring the count to 21, but that number dropped right back down to 20 when QB Patrick Dosh reversed field and signed with Florida today instead of Tech. Dosh's decommitment isn't a total surprise, because everyone knew he was receiving a late push from the Gators, but it stung the Hokie coaches, who wanted to sign two quarterbacks this year. Had they known the Dosh commitment was going to fall through, Tech might have pushed harder for James Banks or Derrell Jenkins. On the positive side, DT Jimmy Williams' signing with Tech is a huge "get" for the Hokies. The massive (6-4, 305), fast (4.8 forty) Williams is expected to be in the two-deep at defensive tackle for the Hokies in the fall. Williams will have two years of eligibility at Tech. Here is a list of the signees, sorted by position. Each player's name is a link to their TSL recruiting database entry.
PrepStar has ranked Virginia Tech's class #24 in the nation, with two PrepStar Dream Teamers (Vick and Jonathan Lewis) signing with the Hokies. Rivals.com has Virginia Tech ranked #43, but that does not include the Patrick Dosh decommit. Rivals.com ranks Vick the #8 player in the country in its Rivals.com list of the Top 100 Players.
