QB Marcus Vick Commits to the Hokies
The circus surrounding Vick reached a fever pitch as his announcement approached, although rumors that ESPNews was going to cover the press conference turned out to be unfounded. According to a press conference observer, Vick said that early playing time availability and the chance to work with new Tech QB coach Kevin Rogers, in a new offense headed by new offensive coordinator Bryan Stinespring, were key factors in his decision. Vick (6-1, 185 pounds, 4.4 forty) broke his brother Michael's career records for passing at Warwick in only two years of playing quarterback. Marcus' two-year totals were 432 passing attempts with 305 completions for 3,992 yards and 40 touchdowns. He also ran for 1,468 yards and 24 touchdowns. Vick is the #2-ranked recruit in the state of Virginia per Doug Doughty, and a SuperPrep Elite 50 player (ranked the #24 player overall and the #6 QB in the nation). He is a Rivals.com 5-star player (one of just 38 in the nation) and the #2-ranked dual-threat QB by Rivals.com. Rivals also rates him the #8 player overall in its Rivals 100 list of the top 100 players in the country. He was also named to Parade Magazine's All-America Team. Vick's verbal brings Tech's commitment list to 19, 17 of which are in-state players. For a list of all Virginia Tech verbal commitments for 2002, click here.
