WR Hill and DE Tapp Verbal to Tech; Hokies Lose Brooks Wide receiver Brenden Hill from Warwick High in Newport News committed to the Hokies Sunday, and defensive end Darryl Tapp from Deep Creek High in Chesapeake committed on Monday, bringing Tech's total verbals to 18 for the 2002 recruiting season. On the downside of the ledger, mega-recruit Ahmad Brooks from Hylton High in Woodbridge, VA verbaled to the University of Virginia earlier today, selecting the Hoos over VT and Tennessee. Brooks is ranked as the top player in the state of Virginia and is a big recruiting loss for Tech. Hill visited Virginia Tech last weekend and liked it enough to verbal to the Hokies over Virginia, Norfolk State, and Howard. He is the #37-ranked player in the state (per Doughty). Hill's verbal was reported by the Newport News Daily Press. Tapp was reportedly a near-verbal to Maryland just last week, but some discussions with family members turned him around to a VT verbal. Tapp, the #15-ranked player in the state, made up his mind Monday, and although sources told TSL that he would keep it quiet until Wednesday, his verbal was made public by the Roanoke Times Monday afternoon, just 45 minutes after Brooks verbaled to UVa. Hill and Tapp's verbals bring Tech's commitment list to 18, 16 of which are in-state players. Marcus Vick is expected to make his announcement at 3:00 pm
tomorrow. TSL has received word that the press conference may be on ESPNews (believe it or not), so those of you with
access to ESPNews, check it to see if that unfolds. In any event, we will bring you the news as soon as we can on
