RB Mike Imoh Commits to Tech Tailback Mike Imoh committed to the Hokies today at an afternoon press conference at Robinson High School in Fairfax, Virginia. Imoh (pictured at right) chose the Hokies over Wake Forest and Pittsburgh. Imoh (5-7, 175, 4.4 forty) led Robinson to the state Group AAA championship this season. In 13 games his senior year, he rushed for 2100 yards and 34 TD's. In his career, he rushed for over 5,000 yards. In a year packed with talent in the state of Virginia, Imoh was named Group AAA Player of the Year by the Associated Press. Imoh wore a jacket to the press conference and took it off to reveal a #27 Virginia Tech football jersey. He also donned a Virginia Tech cap and then gave his reasons for committing to the Hokies. Imoh noted that he had been leaning to Tech, but a Thursday morning meeting with Tech running backs Coach Billy Hite, in which Hite showed Imoh some film and talked to him about what he expected of his players, swayed Imoh for good. Imoh said that he felt comfortable with Tech and the Tech coaches, and some of the factors that influenced his decision were the fact that Virginia Tech was the first to offer him a scholarship and that he was the only tailback VT was recruiting this year. Imoh told reporters that he did not have a second choice, that once he settled on Tech as his first choice, he didn't think about it anymore. Imoh is Tech's 16th verbal commitment of the 2002 recruiting
class, the 14th from the state of Virginia. Coaches Frank Beamer and Bud Foster were at Robinson High School but did
not attend the press conference per NCAA rules. |
