Griffin Hoping to Decide Soon
James Griffin, the outstanding defensive back prospect from Pasadena City College (CA), will take an official visit
to West Virginia this weekend. He will make his decision immediately following the trip.
"I think I’ll know where I’m going on the plane ride home," said Griffin. "I’m excited. It’s
getting pretty heated. I don’t have a leader right now, but I will decide between LSU, Virginia Tech, and
Oregon."
Griffin is fresh off of a visit to LSU, the team he originally committed to earlier in the year. He had a great time
in Baton Rouge, and liked some of the things Coach Nick Saban was telling him.
"They were telling me I could walk in and be a starter," said Griffin. "The visit was tight. It was
definitely real."
One person who has been a significant help to James throughout this process has been his father. Together, they are
trying to sift through the schools, hoping to determine which school is the best fit for James.
"Basically, my parents know what I can do," said Griffin. "My father wants me to go in and lay it
down. They want me to go to the school where I can play right away and make a difference. I only have two years left, so
that’s important. I want to go crazy on the field wherever I go.
"My father is helping me a lot. He talked to Coach Saban all day today and will talk to Coach Beamer tomorrow.
All three places are telling me I can start, we just have to figure out the best situation for me. My mom just wants to
know where I’m going to school."
Originally from Tennessee, Griffin says distance from his family won’t be a factor in his decision.
"It doesn’t matter," said Griffin. "They saw all of my games at Pasadena anyway."
Griffin hopes to decide shortly after his visit to Morgantown this weekend. In my opinion, it will come down to LSU
and Virginia Tech, but Oregon is also after him very hard. He is very comfortable with the rover position, and his good
friend Jimmy Williams plays defensive tackle for the Hokies.
Landing a player of Griffin’s caliber would be huge for Coach Beamer and company.
