Terrell Golden Down to Two

Lake Taylor (Norfolk, VA) wide receiver Terrell Golden, who returned from his first official visit last weekend, has narrowed his schools down to two. Penn State, the recipient of Golden’s visit last weekend, and Virginia Tech are his two finalists.

He will visit the Hokies this weekend and hopefully decide soon after.

“It’s true, I’m down to those two schools,” said Golden. “I will decide after my visit.”

Golden was impressed with what the Nittany Lions had to offer on his trip. Several things stood out for one of Virginia’s top wide receiver prospects.

“It was my first official visit, so I didn’t really know what to expect,” said Golden. “The food was very good. I spent a lot of time with the players and coaches and they showed me around State College. I thought that State College was nothing but a college town, but it surprised me. They have a lot of other things like other places and malls and things, and I like that a lot. The players are also really cool, and they seemed genuinely good people.

“Then I got to meet Coach Paterno. It was really great…it was like meeting a living legend.”

Despite having a great official visit, Golden did not name a leader between the Hokies and the Lions.

“It’s about fifty-fifty,” said Golden. “I can’t really say Penn State is my leader because I haven’t visited Virginia Tech yet.”

Going into his visit to Blacksburg this weekend, Golden knows what the deciding factors will be in his decision.

“Basically, I’m looking at the attitude of the players,” said Golden. “I want the players to be good not just as football players, but as people. I also want to get a feel as to the direction the team is going. It would be nice to play for a young, up-and-coming squad.”

Golden, who stands 6-3, 215 pounds, and runs a sub 4.5 in the 40, will likely get an opportunity to play early as a freshman. Both schools are offering him the chance to play immediately, and it’s a challenge he welcomes.

“Yes sir, most definitely” I want to play early, said Golden. “Virginia Tech said I could come in and that I would be a good complement to [Ernest] Wilford next year. They said they are trying to open up the offense and use 3 and 4 wide receiver sets next season.

“Penn State is losing one of their best receivers in Bryant Johnson, and they need someone with speed to come in and play next year. They said they are only taking one receiver in the class, so whoever that is will have a good chance to play early.”

Look for a decision to come from Terrell a week or two following this weekend’s official visit to Virginia Tech. He hopes to decide by Christmas. Right now, it looks like a toss-up between the two schools.
