Duane Brown Stays In-State

One day after Fontel Mines chose Virginia as his collegiate destination, Hermitage teammate Duane Brown made his decision public…he will attend Virginia Tech.

"Duane committed to Virginia Tech last night," said Hermitage Head Coach Patrick Kane. "After visiting last weekend for the Virginia-Virginia Tech game, he just felt that Virginia Tech was the right place for him."

Brown, who played tight end and defensive end for Hermitage, will play tight end for the Hokies next season.

Heading into this season, he was one of the highest rated prospects in the state. A broken fibula early in the season sidelined Brown for most of his senior campaign, meaning he may not receive some of the area accolades he may deserve.

Kane knows, however, that the Hokies landed a special player.

"Duane has a very bright future for Virginia Tech," said Kane.

Brown has fully recovered from his injury, and looks to play varsity basketball this winter. A good student, he has already fully qualified for freshman eligibility.
