Recruiting Update: James Griffin

Has Griffin Committed?

Rumors were swirling this weekend about a possible verbal commitment to Virginia Tech from outstanding LB/DB James Griffin of Pasadena City College in Pasadena, California. TSL was able to catch up with Griffin Sunday night to see if the rumors had any truth.

"No, I haven’t committed [to Virginia Tech]," said Griffin. "Someone called last night saying he heard those rumors, but it’s not true. I haven’t decided."

To the contrary, Griffin listed another school that appears to be tops on his list at the moment.

"Oregon is number one," said Griffin. "The Oregon coaches are coming out to see me tomorrow. They come to see me often, like I am the main priority in their recruiting class. Every time they come they show me more of their defensive playbook.

"I would say Virginia Tech is second. I talk to Coach Beamer almost every week. They can’t come out to see me often because of their schedule, and I understand that."

While Oregon and the Hokies are running first and second for his services, Griffin plans on visiting two more schools before making a final decision.

"I will visit LSU on December 14 and West Virginia on December 20," said Griffin. "I verballed to LSU early [before de-committing later] and I have never been to the campus. I just want to make sure I’m not overlooking anything before making a decision."

Signing Day for JUCO prospects is December 18. Griffin will not sign on that date, as he plans on checking out all options before making a decision.
