Duane Brown Names Leader

Duane Brown returned from his official visit to Virginia Tech this weekend feeling good about his experience in Blacksburg. He also has a clearer vision of where he may end up. Previously, the Hokies were even with Virginia for his services.

“Virginia Tech’s my leader,” said Brown, who was hosted by Noland Burchette. “The visit was great, I got to talk to a lot of players and coaches. The game was pretty good also. The best part about that was the first half. It was close then and Virginia Tech took over in the second half.”

While he did enjoy his visit to Blacksburg, Brown named one main factor that separates the Hokies from the Cavaliers.

”Both schools have great academics, facilities, and coaches,” said Brown. “The number of tight ends at Virginia Tech is small, so they said they needed a tight end like myself who can run and catch. UVa has some young tight ends already in the program, and that’s the only difference.”

Virginia was recruiting Brown to play tight end or defensive end, however have been leaning more towards using him at tight end in recent weeks.

Being from the same school, there has been speculation that Brown and teammate Fontel Mines will be a package deal in college. As of right now, it appears neither player will be influenced by the decision of the other.

“No, we will make our own decision,” said Brown. “I haven’t talked to Fontel since the trip, but I’ll probably talk to him tomorrow.”

It looks like Duane could pull the trigger to Virginia Tech soon, however it will not affect Fontel Mines’ decision. Both have said on a consistent basis that they will choose the team that’s best for them. For Brown, it looks like the Hokies’ lack of depth at tight end could prove to be the deciding factor.
