Mines Visits Virginia

Hermitage (Richmond, VA) wide receiver Fontel Mines made his official visit to Virginia this past weekend. While he enjoyed the Cavaliers 14-9 victory over NC State, he was also impressed in getting to know a certain Virginia All-American receiver.

"The visit was very good," said Mines, who has been compared by many to former Henrico (Richmond, VA) and current Virginia All-American receiver Billy McMullen. "[The highlight of the visit] was talking with Billy. We talked about the situation, and he told me not to feel any pressure with the comparisons and everything.

"He told me that if I went there, to not feel any pressure from the hype."

Mines, who visited with Hermitage TE/DE Duane Brown, was hosted by Lance Evans, Anthony Martinez, and Stefon Orange. He also spent time with McMullen and junior receiver Michael McGrew after the game. During the game, he met a few Virginia commitments who happened to come down for the game.

"I talked to [recent Virginia commitment] Chris Johnson and Keenan Carter was there, too," said Mines. "Theyre good people."

Mines first official visit was a success and he will decide between Virginia and Virginia Tech following an official visit to Blacksburg on November 29. He may also visit Wake Forest on December 6, but the Demon Deacons are way behind the Hokies and Cavaliers at this time.

"I cant say I have a leader," said Mines of the intense recruiting battle between the two in-state schools.

Upon returning from his official visit to Charlottesville, Mines was back at work preparing for this Fridays Division 6 first round playoff battle at Thomas Dale. Sunday night, he was checking out film on Thomas Dale with Head Coach Patrick Kane, eager to continue Hermitages (10-0) winning ways into the playoffs.

Mines finished the regular season in style Friday night in a 38-8 victory over Douglas Freeman, catching five passes for 78 yards and one touchdown. For the season, he finished with 35 receptions for 624 yards and eight touchdowns.
