Mayo, Hall to Announce Today
The winner of the annual Virginia-Virginia Tech in-state recruiting battle will be decided this week, starting today,
when #1 Olu Hall
(defensive end, Robinson HS, Fairfax) and #5 Jerod
Mayo (linebacker, Kecoughtan HS, Hampton, VA) make their college choices known.

To this point, the VT-UVa war has been a draw in-state, with each school having things they can brag about:
- The Cavaliers have the highest rated commitment, from #4 DE Chris Long.
- The Hokies have more commitments in the top 8 (three) than UVa (just one).
- Virginia has more commitments in the top 11 (four) than VT (three).
And so on. But one thing is clear: Mayo and Hall will go a long way towards settling the argument with their
commitments today. Or maybe not. Maybe the argument will continue beyond signing day (Wednesday, Feb 4th).
Hall will announce his intentions at 2:30 today at a press conference at Robinson High School, and TSL recruiting
analyst Chris Horne will be on hand to relay the news as soon as possible. More on that later. Hall will choose from VT,
UVa, Ohio State, N.C. State, and Purdue.
Mayo will not have a press conference, but will inform the coaches of his three schools (Virginia Tech, Virginia, and
Tennessee) around 3 p.m. today. The news of his choice will come out shortly thereafter.
The remaining uncommitted in-state player, #2 Eddie
Royal (WR, Westfield HS, Chantilly, VA) does not have a decision date. Royal will choose between VT, UVa, and
Marshall. He took a visit to Marshall this past weekend and came away impressed, and the Herd cracked his top three
list, which had previously been a list of just Tech and UVa.
As usual, we request that you not hit refresh on the message boards over and over and over in an attempt to find out
the news about Hall and Mayo. We have set up small pages for you to track their status -- as soon as each player
announces his college choice, we'll change these pages to show what they are, so bookmark them and check them this
afternoon.
TO SAVE THE LOAD ON THE SERVER, PLEASE DO NOT REFRESH THESE PAGES MORE THAN ONCE EVERY 30 SECONDS.
