2002 Football Schedule Released

The regular season football schedule released by Virginia Tech Friday includes 12 regular season games, seven home games, five games already slated for national TV, and three weekday games, including one on Wednesday.

The schedule did not include a thirteenth "preseason classic" game. That game is still being finalized and should be announced soon.

Here is Virginia Tech's football schedule for 2002:

The schedule is without a doubt the most unusual Tech football schedule of all time. It includes the return of the Thursday night ESPN telecast (there are two, one at home against Marshall on Sep. 12th, and one on the road against BC on Oct. 10th) and even has a Wednesday home game against WVU, slated for broadcast on ESPN2.

The Miami game scheduled for Dec. 7th will be the latest game (by date) ever played on a Virginia Tech football schedule. The previous latest game was a December 2nd, 1950 matchup against Maryland (the Hokies lost, 63-7).

At this point, five of Tech's 12 games are slated for national television. In addition to the three ESPN and ESPN2 games, Tech will be on national TV broadcasts Sep. 1 against LSU and Dec. 7th against Miami.

There is no announced timetable for the preseason game to be finalized, but reportedly, Tulsa, previously the frontrunner, will not be Tech's opponent.

The new schedule is posted on the Football Page, 2002 Schedule Page, and TSL home page.
