News With Commentary by TSL Staff Friday, July 20, 2001 Virginia Tech Announces Scheduling Changes In a July 20th press release, Virginia Tech announced the signing of the LSU home-and-home football series for 2002 and 2004, plus several other scheduling changes, most notably a BCA preseason game with East Carolina in 2004. Both LSU/VT games will be shown on either ABC, ESPN or ESPN2, according to Tech Athletic Director Jim Weaver. The dates are August 31st, 2002 for the Tech home game and September 4th, 2004 for the LSU home game. To schedule the 2004 game with LSU, the Hokies had to move a 2004 game with UNC from September 4th to September 18th. The move was accommodated by both UNC and Utah, who were originally scheduled to play on Sept. 18th, 2004. The game also required the Hokies to cancel a home-and-home contract with East Carolina for 2004 and 2005. In other exciting news, Virginia Tech will face the ECU Pirates in the 2004 Black Coaches Association preseason football game. The game will mark the final college football preseason contest due to its recent elimination by the NCAA. Thanks to the 2004 BCA Game, Tech is scheduled to play 12 games in each of the next three seasons (2002-2004), with seven home games each year during that period.
