Monday, April 12, 1999 Spring Football: Offense Continues to Improve Saturday, the Hokies held their last football scrimmage before the Spring Game, and it sounds as if the offense is continuing to get better. On Saturday, they were able to mount a couple of long drives, one of which is mentioned in the hokiesports.com press release as being a 10-play, 66-yard drive (and every Hokie fan knows we would have killed for a few drives like that at strategic points last season). HC message board poster Stretch, who provided us with one of our previous scrimmage reports, returns with another one. Thanks for the input, Stretch (and N2, and Wandering Hokie) - I have received emails from far-away Hokies, thanking you guys profusely for providing the eyewitness reports. Regarding Stretch's report, and the reports of others, I did want to mention Andre Kendrick, and how much I respect him, and how impressed I am with how hard he plays. Andre is one of those rare players who exudes energy and the sheer will to play. Anyone here remember Ranall White? Ranall was a rarely-used tailback who played from 1992-1994. Although he didn't get to carry the ball much, Ranall always exploded with energy when the coaches put him in, and it was always a shame that he didn't get more playing time. So it is with Andre, a smallish running back who seems to have only two settings: "off" and "FULL-BLAST," and off never gets used. He has certainly put forth the effort and has earned playing time - I fear, though, that he will get caught up in the Stith-Suggs-Burnell numbers game. In any event, I'm going to make sure that I get that kid's autograph before he graduates. As additional reading pleasure, Randy King of the Roanoke Times has returned from the dead to provide us with an article about Michael Vick. Good to see you back, Randy, and keep 'em coming.
Project: Thank You, Part 2 Remember the "Project: Thank You" that Nova Hokie 95 put together for us last fall as a way to thank the football team for their efforts? Our HC Columnist has returned with a similar project for the men's and women's basketball teams, so, without further ado, check out Project: Thank You, Part 2. The original PTY was a great success and a great way to connect the fans to the players, and I hope you decide to participate in this one, too!
