I'm Fwee!  I'm Fwee!

Which is baby talk for "I'm Three!  I'm Three!"

Those of you who have been hanging around HokieCentral for a while know that March 12th is a special day here, because it's the day that HokieCentral was launched in 1996.  The first three years have seen amazing growth and change at this web site, and it's not slowing down any time soon.

Usually, I celebrate HokieCentral birthdays with a big article, but today at HC, it's just business as usual.  With the birth of Baby HokieCentral and the success of the women's team, I've been a busy webmaster lately, and there wasn't time to prepare a special article.  In fact, I was too busy simply producing today's huge Special Feature to prepare a birthday article.

But I did want to take a few minutes to thank everyone who has helped out with the web site and continues to contribute.  It's no secret that although I put a lot of time in on the site, what really makes it go are the contributions of the message board posters, the HokieCentral columnists, message board host Grassy Knoll, my merchandise manufacturers at Eleven West and DRJ, personal friend N2VTFTBL, and everyone who has contributed anything, large or small, along the way.  I would start naming all of you, but then I'd leave somebody out, and it would get messy.  You know who you are.

And those of you who have helped, please continue to contribute, because I can't do it without you.

Later this spring or early next summer, I'm going to post a feedback survey to get some, uh, feedback from you, so I can continue to make HokieCentral the premier Virginia Tech sports web site in existence.  With all the exciting stuff getting ready to happen to Hokie sports in the near future, you think I'm going to get left behind?  No way!

News of the Week

  • The biggest news of the week is that Tech's Tere Williams and Lisa Witherspoon were both named honorable mention All-America.  Tere's scoring and rebounding abilities speak for themselves, and Spoon finished third in the country in assists and is featured today in a Roanoke Times article.
  • Spoon was also named the Richmond Times-Dispatch Player of the Year in the state of Virginia.  The award is given out by Vic Dorr, who worried that he might take heat for picking a player who doesn't score a lot of points.  Nonsense, Vic.  Every Hokie women's basketball fan in existence commends you for making official what we already know, and you look like a pretty smart guy to me.
  • At the end of the day Wednesday, it was reported by a message board poster that Tech had sold 6,000 tickets to this weekend's NCAA sub-regional in Cassell.  And on a personal note, good news for me:  Baby HokieCentral's baptism has been postponed (because his grandparents won't be able to make it down from Pennsylvania this weekend) so I'll be able to see the Saturday game after all!
  • While we're wearing out the subject of women's hoops, here's an article that ought to make you smile.  It's an unsolicited show of respect for Virginia Tech fans from Greensboro Coliseum managing director Matt Brown, who wants the Hokie women in the Sweet 16.  Me too, Matt.
