1998 HokieCentral Memberships are Now Available

I have been working hard on the 1998 membership stuff, and it is finally posted, just in time before I have to leave for Jacksonville.  Before I cut you loose on it, I have a few comments.

First of all, I think that the new stuff is really neat, and I think you will, too.   One thing I was not able to get done in time, however, was to set myself up to take credit card orders on-line.  So unfortunately (or fortunately, depending upon how you view it), memberships will still have to be paid for by mailing a check.

The good news is, the membership forms are easier to fill out, and they're posted on-line now.  So you can type in the information, print the form, and mail it to me.   Everything is pretty clear and easy to follow, so you shouldn't have any trouble figuring out what's available in 1998 and how much it costs.

So, without further ado, please go to the Membership Page and check out what's there.   I hope you see something you like!  Everyone, be sure to click on the link at the top of the Membership page that talks about what's different between this year's memberships and last year's.

All forms and links should be working correctly.  Please let me know if they are not.

So, What About the Gator Bowl?

Unfortunately, I've been working on the membership stuff so hard that I haven't had time to post any information about the upcoming bowl game or the North Carolina Tarheels - but that's all right, because they're not talking about us, either.

Perhaps the biggest news surrounds Al Clark and speculation on whether or not he'll play against UNC.  Right now, the prognosis does not look good.  Al's knee was/is slow to heal, and he has not been able to practice at all since surgery.  The knee has almost healed completely, to the point where although he is not 100%, he is not in pain anymore.  From what I understand, the knee isn't hurting him, but he has suffered degradation of the surrounding muscle and has lost flexibility during rehab.

To top it all off, Al has had the flu, which has kept him in bed in Jacksonville and has prevented him from practicing on Saturday or Sunday.  Redshirt freshman Nick Sorensen has been taking all of the snaps in practice, and although Beamer hasn't caved in yet, it looks like Sorensen is going to get the start.

I like Nick, but I dread the thought of a redshirt freshman going against Carolina's awesome defense.  Unfortunately, the only alternative is a less-than-healthy, rusty-as-all-get-out Al Clark.  This looks like a no-win scenario to me.  In the end, we'll just have to go with what we've got.

On the positive side of the ledger, I have to think that Carolina's collective head is just not in this game.  They are unfocused and thinking about other things, like coaching changes and missed Alliance Bowls, whereas the Hokies are hungry and bloodthirsty for what they perceive would be a big win.

I'm heading out on Tuesday (if I can get out of the snowbound New River Valley), and I'll be there having fun, regardless of the outcome.  Hope to see you there!
