Evil Personified
by Go VT with an assist to 'Network' Hokie for getting me all liquored up and angry
posted 11/25/98

They are Evil, I tells ya. Evil. That's with a capital E, by the way.

What a way to start off a column. You know exactly who (or is it whom?) I am talking about. I must admit that I have been very ambivalent about our snobbish cousins the past few years. Why the change all of a sudden? I spent some time this weekend with 'Network' Hokie (he's still as mad as hell and he ain't gonna take it no more!). He showed me his dictionary to prove it-

e-vil (é´vel) adj.[OE yfel] 1 morally bad or wrong; wicked 2 harmful; injurious 3 represented in pictures by

There, you have proof now. I saw it with my own eyes. Of course my eyesight might have been a tad blurry, but you can trust me.

Let's analyze the definition for absolute proof. I mean, we are not the general public and this is not the Sam Shephard trial (see the Fugitive if you don't have an idea what I am talking about).

Go VT's analysis-

1. Morally bad or wrong; wicked.

Is going back on your word morally bad or wrong? Is deceit wicked? To me it is. Let's see how does that fit our Cavalier cousins ( cav-a-lier (kav' e lir') adj. 1 casual 2 ARROGANT (emphasis mine).

Let's see, how about making an agreement based on a set of circumstances, getting an agreement, then saying how those circumstances aren't that important anymore.

Example:  get Tech to agree to move the football game to a different date in the season, since they (the Cavaliers) want to play Hawaii at the end of the season. Tech agrees. They then drop Hawaii, saying it is too difficult, since they now want to play BYU.

Or how about another example:  let's agree to play basketball games at each other's home arena. New coach comes in and whines and complains about it, so the deal is off. Nothing had been signed, but I'll bet a verbal agreement was made.

In my mind you are only as good as your word. If your word is nothing, then that is not a good thing. Hence that is bad. Bad is wicked (unless of course it is extremely cool, as in a Maroon and Orange Harley!).

2. Harmful; injurious.

Hmmm.... Two words would suffice - Joe Geick. Look at the pictures. He was not five yards away, as many Hoos would have you believe.

Need more? How about comments made before their game with unc about Ronald Curry (who couldn't keep his word either, so he really should have gone to uva, where he would have fit right in).

Need more proof? Then the next one should really cinch it...

3. Represented in pictures by .

Well, okay, it might have been drawn in 'Network's dictionary, but these blurry eyes saw it in there. I know 'Network' Hokie wouldn't lie to me. We've been friends for thirty years!

My thoughts-

I must say that I don't really care anymore if we play that university in any sporting event again. The only rivalry that exists is the one between Good (Hokies) and Evil (see above definition). We all know what happens when Good and Evil fight don't you? Good always triumphs in the end.

End the basketball series unless it is played at the home gyms! End the football series unless it's played at Thanksgiving! Or how about just ending the series! I don't care. Pick up a name opponent.

uva=x, VT=x+1 is all that matters.

Comments for 'Network' Hokie can be directed to your TV set or out of an open window. You can email me at [email protected]

All flames will be ignored or put into a column for others to make fun of! ;-)
