Explanation and Scoring

Each game, TechSideline.com will award a TechSideline Defensive Player of the Game Award. The award is numbers-based, not subjective. A player wins the TSL Defensive Player of the Game Award by scoring points for making defensive plays. Points are awarded according to the following scale:

  • Solo Tackle (ST): 2 points
  • Assisted Tackle (AT): 1 point
  • Tackle for Loss (TFL): 2 points (also gets awarded AT or ST points, for a possible total of 3 or 4 points for a TFL)
  • TFL yards: 0.2 points per yard lost on the tackle
  • Sack: 2 points (also gets awarded AT or ST points, plus 2 TFL points, for a possible total of 5 or 6 points for a sack)
  • Interception: 10 points
  • Interception yards: 0.1 points per yard
  • Pass Defensed (PD): 3 points
  • QB Hurry (QBH): 2 points
  • Fumble Recovery: 5 points
  • Fumble Recovery yards: 0.2 points per yard.
  • Forced Fumble: 10 points
  • Defensive Touchdown: 20 points

The TSL defensive point system was created in TSL Extra issue #5. For a complete explanation, including rankings of the Hokie defenders from the 2000 season, see TSL Extra issue #5.
