OL Laurence Gibson Commits to Virginia Tech
by Will Stewart, TechSideline.com, TSLMail Breaking News, December 16, 2009

Four-star offensive lineman Laurence Gibson from Hargrave Military Academy has committed to Virginia Tech. Gibson confirmed the commitment to TSL recruiting analyst Chris Horne in a text message earlier tonight.

Gibson played his high school ball in Sierra Vista, Arizona, and he qualified academically coming out of high school. He was lightly recruited, though, so he decided to spend a season at Hargrave. The move paid off, as Gibson's stock shot up and he received offers from Auburn, Ole Miss, Boston College, Clemson, and UTEP, plus the Hokies.

Gibson is 6-6 and weighs 300 pounds, and he played offensive right tackle for Robert Prunty at Hargrave. He said the decision came down to feeling most comfortable at Virginia Tech.

"Finally, I just picked where my gut was telling me to go," Gibson said. "... this just feels right. I'm happy with the town of Blacksburg. It's like my hometown."

Gibson is the 19th player to commit to the Hokies, and the first since Nick Dew committed back on September 26th. Gibson is the fourth offensive line recruit of the 2010 class, joining Matt Arkema, Caleb Farris, and Mark Shuman to form the backbone of a very strong offensive line class.

Gibson plans to enroll at Virginia Tech next month.
