OL/DL Bobby Massie Commits to VT
by Will Stewart, TechSideline.com

One of the bigger prospects in the state of Virginia's 2008 class verbally committed to Virginia Tech earlier, giving the nod to the Hokies over offers from Clemson, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina and Tennessee. Liberty Christian Academy (Lynchburg, VA) offensive/defensive lineman Bobby Massie, a 6-7, 330-pound prospect, is the latest recruit to join Tech's 2008 recruiting class.

Massie, who made his official visit to Virginia Tech this weekend, set off a celebration amongst Tech's coaches after informing primary recruiter Bryan Stinespring and head coach Frank Beamer of his decision.

"I have committed to Virginia Tech," Massie said. "I decided to commit this morning, really. It was just how the players liked Virginia Tech and how they are from all over Virginia. They love it there. They seemed to be just like me. They are the same people I'm used to being around. I just felt comfortable."

Massie's commitment to Tech was not necessarily a surprise, although the timing was unexpected. Massie had also set official visits to Clemson and Georgia for the month of December and had been adamant in stating that he wanted to take all five official visits before making a decision. One official visit turns out to be all he needed.

"I'm just going to focus on Tech," Massie said.

Massie is the 14th Hokie commitment on TSL's In-State Preseason Top 30, twice as many as all other schools combined. No other university has more than one commitment from the top 30. VT now has 20 commitments overall for the 2008 class.

Massie also talked with TSL recruiting analyst Chris Horne about how he made his decision, whether or not he'll have to prep (academics are a concern with Massie), the highlight of his official visit to VT this past weekend, and how he compares to top in-state recruit Vinston Painter (hint: it involves a reflective surface).
