Tech vs. Auburn Notes

  • The Tech/Auburn game is not scheduled as one of the ESPN/ESPN2 broadcasts slated for Monday night, but it is probably available on satellite/pay-per-view.  And if that's the case, they'll probably cut away from the games they are showing on ESPN/ESPN2 to bring you updates on the Tech game, particularly as it gets late in the game.
  • The crowd of 10,052 that saw Tech beat St. Peter's Saturday night is officially the ninth largest crowd to ever see a first-round game in the women's NCAA tournament.
  • As of Sunday night, there were 1900 tickets left for Monday night, so expect a sellout.  For you returning students who want to see the game, get there early.  I think tickets are $10, and they are unreserved seating.
  • ESPN analyst Mimi Griffin has lit a fire under the Hokies and their fans by saying that Tech is the team most likely to be upset in the second round.   Lisa Witherspoon said, "Yeah, that quote is up all over our bulletin boards."
  • On Sunday night, UConn got a taste of what the Hokies had to deal with three times this year, when Xavier pushed the Huskies to the wire before falling to UConn by two points.  UConn took the lead on two free throws with 7 seconds left to go, and it was the first time they had led since midway through the first half   Aaaarrgh!  To worsen the blow, Xavier's Nikki Kremer gacked on two free throws that would have put the Musketeers up by two with about 30 seconds to go, missing them both.  That opened the door for UConn to win.
