ECU Game Analysis Posted; Banks Doubtful for Miami

There was so much I liked about the ECU game that it was tough picking what to write about, but I managed it. Check it out by clicking on the "Game Analysis" button in my orange navigation bar, or by clicking on the tiny "Games" link under "Welcome to Hokie Central."

The one piece of bad news coming out of the ECU game is that Antonio Banks is listed as doubtful for the Miami game. Banks suffered a groin injury at the end of the first half against ECU, and those things are mighty tough to recover from, so you probably won't see him against the 'Canes. That's my expert medical analysis of the situation, anyway....

Losing a talented, experienced senior for a big game is never a good thing, obviously, but the Miami game, if the Hokies are to win it, will be won by the offensive line, not the defensive backfield. As long as we don't give up too many long bombs to guys like Magic Benton, we should be okay defensively, especially with Danyell Ferguson out for the year (not to knock Miami's backups, but Ferguson was the Big East's leading rusher last year).

I'll have more to say about the upcoming Miami game later this week.

Hokie Hoopsters Win Exhibition

Okay, I'm doing this from memory, so some of the "facts" might be wrong, but here goes:

Tech beat FMP-Yugoslavia in an exhibition basketball game at Cassell Coliseum, 69-53. Even though the Yugoslavs featured a huge, Temple-sized lineup, the Hokies played well in all phases of the game to win easily.

Now for the numbers: Ace scored 20 and had 7 boards, and Keefe Mathews and Jim Jackson each scored 10. Alvaro Tor posted 7 points. None of the other players distinguished themselves statistically, including a number of guys that I'm excited to see play: Shawn Browne, Russ Wheeler, and Andre Ray.

I don't like the sight of Ace in a knee brace, but he says it feels fine.

In the backcourt, Bill Foster started Ray and, oddly enough, Myron Guillory. It's not that I don't like Guillory, it's just that I'm a HUGE Troy Manns fan, so I was surprised to see that. Also, Foster mentioned that Browne is having some "academic difficulties." Apparently, he's fine from an institutional standpoint, but he's not filling the bill from a team standpoint. Whatever - neither Coach Foster nor Bill Roth would elaborate.
