The Message Board Minute

A quick look at what's happenin' elsewhere in the Cyber Smack World.

After a weekend of celebrating a win over the Hoos and a top 5 ranking, the MBM staff finally got back to the business of keeping the HokieCentral community informed about what's going on around the Net. MBM head honcho MinuteMan was nursing one of the nastiest hangovers ever witnessed in Pocatello, Idaho, where the MBM offices are strategically located, but the man is a professional, so the show will go on.

First stop today, we take a look at this past week's opponents, RUTSgers, a school famous for being the birthplace of college football, and most recently, the birthplace of the RU1000. If you are scratching your head trying to figure out what the name means, apparently they took the number of anti-sports activists at RUTSgers, multiplied that by 100, and came up with the RU1000 moniker.

Anyway, we think it's safe to say that RU Tough Guy is not a member of this famed group. The Tough Guy apparently has not realized that the efforts of RU1000 to fail or injure every decent player on the Scarlet Knights' squad have been a huge success, and the roster has been nearly wiped out. Still, it's refreshing to see - ahem - an opponent who doesn't use injuries or academic suspensions or even probation as excuses.

You'll recall that our last installment of the MBM included a look at Hive poster G.T. J.T.'s work. J.T. makes it two in a row as he parodies the Ronald Curry recruiting hype. While his abuse of Curry gets J.T. a degree-of-difficulty rating in the 0.0 range, we admire his efforts nonetheless.

One of the more enjoyable reads this week was uncovered by our staff on the Canes site. This preseason discussion of the Miami-ECU game by Grassy's band of merry freaks is priceless. After reading a string like this we feel it is important to point out that as long as the Canes are still posting, the MBM pretty much writes itself.

Before we go, there's one last little bit of info we'd like to pass on. It seems that there were some Wahoos who predicted, or even in some cases guaranteed, a victory over our Hokies last weekend. At the MBM, we think it is uncalled for to point out when other people have been horribly wrong, and therefore it is our policy not to name names. Who are we kidding? Roll call for S Boston Hoo, WahooFla, 111Balz, and Welsh4Welsh. There are plenty more, but we'll save those for a slow week.
